Mandate of organization

Portrait Society of Canada is public professional organization dedicated to furthering the traditions of Fine Art Portraiture and Sculpture, to develop the support, promotion and public’s appreciation of the art of portrait in Canada

Main Goals and artistic objectives. Mission Statement

  • Communicate and educate the technique aesthetics and application of traditional fine art portraiture and sculpture
  • Promote and support the development of member portrait artists
  • Develop the Canadian public’s appreciation of the art of portrait in Canada
  • Establish professional Portrait Competition in Canada to promote the Members artist
  • Assist talented young Canadian artists in their study of portraiture through personal encouragement, opportunity of participation in the Society workshops and exhibitions
  • Promote portrait brokers service in Canada
  • Offer portfolio review opportunities to assist and guide members in furthering their knowledge and artistic skills
  • Organize portrait exhibits for the member-artists in Canada
  • Coordinate volunteers in each region of the Country and abroad for the purpose of membership development

Brief history:

Founded in March 2001 in Toronto by group of Canadian –based portrait Artists including: Veronica K. Tsyglan, Peter Patou, Oxana Mirosh, the Society has energetically pursued and fulfill it’s mission.

PSC established the unique event in Canada - Portrait Arts Festivals, Conference and Competition in Fine Arts Portraiture since 2002 until present time. 2006 Fourth Portrait Arts Festival will take place in December 7-10 2005 in Toronto.

Over the 5 years of the Society conduct 3 Festivals, over 20 Open Studio Workshops for the Portrait Artists, Annual Members Exhibition, and spectacular Master’s workshops in 2005.

Portrait Society created the movie “The Miracle of the Portrait” presenting the leading famous Canadian and International Portrait Artists.

Geographic location and community served:

PSC is based Toronto. Members of the PSC are Canadian professional portrait artists from all provinces of Canada, as well as 8 international members. The Canadian Art Community served nationally and internationally.

Role of the organization within the art community:

Role of the PSC is commitment to strengthening its national presence by promoting and communicate the excellence in a forms of visual art and by encouraging acceptance and growth of Contemporary portraiture in Canada.

Policy regarding artist’s fee

Annual fee are in four categories

General Canadian Portrait Artist, International Portrait artist,

Emerging artist (Students), Corporate
