Portrait in the Round
Demonstration by Andrew Benyei
Andrew Benyei developed an early interest in art and was teaching visual arts at the Royal Ontario Museum, YMCA and various summer camps while he was in his teens. Following graduation from the University of Toronto and working as a professional engineer and manager, he continued to explore his creative talents and graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design. In 1990, after shifting personal priorities, he decided to concentrate on his artistic career.
Benyei is best known for his figurative sculptures. His work is expressive and contemporary capturing human dynamics as well as the human condition. He displays an endearing empathy with the subjects he portrays and his interpretation is excitingly fresh and new. Much of his work is based on personal experiences or his observation of people. He sees his challenge as reflecting the moment, the body language and emotions of the participant.
Benyei´s award-winning work has earned accolades from critics and art enthusiasts. He has been invited to exhibit his sculpture world wide including the National Gallery in Budapest, the Fletcher international exhibition in New Zealand and the Albuquerque Museum in New Mexico. His works can be found in both corporate and private collections across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
