I believe in fundamental kindness, truth and love. I endeavor to authentically live and to make art in this way. Connecting to the natural world grounds, reassures and supports me in living and in drawing and painting. I came to art circuitously – through a barrage of imagery after surgery for a benign brain tumor. That incredible silver lining in a difficult time gave way to an extraordinary journey, a profound deepening of the experience of life through art. Portraits were a major heme in the post-surgery imagery. I continue to be guided by a need to employ paint to connect with individuals, some of the past, those who stand in the present and children who mark our future. -- Noy Davis
